i have fond memories of my sister making these for breakfast during our summers at home together.  we would spread them with butter and sprinkle them with sugar. i made them a bit differently today with whole wheat flour, then filled them with cottage cheese and cherry-blueberry sauce. they still smell the same and have the same spotted look that they did when nancy fixed them. the recipe comes from the mennonite melting pot cookbook that has a copyright date of 1975. i have my grandmother’s copy that is filled with recipes in her handwriting. a treasure.
